I really feel this.
Or maybe…
(via thistyrannosaur)
one of my favorite things that shannon did in the daevabad trilogy is the bold 5 year time gap and having nahri married to muntadhir for 5 years. i love that nahris supposed love triangle does not include her canon husband like what a punchy move
Being me horny over Dara intentionally injuring himself so he can talk to Nahri, as told through the medium of Ali Wong.
You’re some kind of thief, then?
That’s a very narrow-minded way of looking at it.
I prefer to think of myself as a merchant of delicate tasks.

S.A. Chakraborty // The Empire of Gold
Why you need to read the Daevabad Trilogy by SA Chakraborty: a discussion by me who just finished the final book and doesn’t know how to cope
- A middle eastern adult fantasy series written by a Muslim author who has degree(s) in middle eastern studies!
- Nahri is a con-woman living in Napoleonic era Cairo who scraps by a living hoping to one day train to be a doctor
- she is lovely and badass without having to be super in your face about it, and she doesn’t need to break a whole lot of gender roles either!
- Dara, the djinn that Nahri accidentally summons
- this boi is hot and that’s not just because of the flames he can summon
- Ali, a prince of Daevabad and all around best boi
- soft boi who likes finances, economics, and books but still can and will kick your ass
- The magical city of Daevabad, where djinn, daevas and shafit live together and it’s very beautiful
- there is a lot of political and tribal tensions
- a lot
- religion that is not seen as detrimental and shown as a positive and vital part of the characters
- Ali is a very devout Muslim and this only adds to how great a character he is
- he is so moralistic and good and tries his best to follow God
- political drama
- so much political intrigue and drama
- especially in the second book, it all slowly builds to an explosive ending that still leaves me shocked over a year later
- the best ‘tentative friends- to best friends- to lovers’ I’ve seen in a long time
- all the romance in the books are at one hand very cute but also heart-wrenching and tragic
- magical libraries!
- magical water creatures that will destroy your entire being (and possibly the world)
- some excellent excellent foreshadowing and clue drops
- a political marriage that is at times quite adorable and even though they don’t love each other, they do care for each other quite a bit
- Zaynab, need i say more?
- queen Hatset is a stan if there ever was one
- Jamshid is a precious bby
- despite parts of these books being adventures! and magic! and politics! there are also parts that are hella dark and grim so be warned
- this is an adult fantasy not ya i’m sick and tired of it being mis- labeled
- the descriptions of food are glorious
- all the characters are poc! middle eastern, african, and indian!
Yes this pretty much sums it up! I finished this book about 3 weeks ago and still don’t know how to cope. Think about Dara every day 😭
I re read the first two books of the Daevabad Trillogy before I start the final book! here are the doots~ As you may be able to tell…. I love Ali… (also still working on Dara/ Muntadhir rip i cant do Genaric Hot Guy anymore)
also fun fact- despite hating fancy outfits, Ali gets his clothes/ apperence described the most in the books
Nahri from the Daevabad Trilogy + her orange grove 🍊✨
I’ve been wanting to draw my favorite thief & healer in her favorite spot for soooooo long so i finally sucked it up and learned how to draw orange trees lmao :’0
